What a varied week we've had so far! Monday was -5 degrees and thick frost, Tuesday morning was torrential rain and Tuesday afternoon was up to 15 degrees and sunny! The course stayed open throughout, we just had to postpone the course maintenance to the following week. We have the luxury of having played on the greens all winter so it makes sense to leave it until they have more chance of recovering quickly again. Not long now until the first qualifying competitions, mixed events and weekly Tuesday evening social 9 hole comps.




On the PGA Tour it was great to see Adam Scott silence the doubters as he won the Honda Classic without his recently banned anchored putting style. Remember, it's not the long putter that's banned, it's the action of anchoring it to the body which is not allowed - most people seem to think it was a silly rule to ban the style and this already goes some way to proving it. He finished second last week and won this week. Will the stroke hold up under the impending test of the US Masters greens? I can verify that putting on greens which are 13/14 on the stimpmeter are a whole different test altogether! The US Masters sweep is up in the Pro Shop - its £3 to pick a ticket and there are prizes for the top three finishers plus prizes for the worst scores each day. 




Miura US Masters Promotion

As we are a big fan of the Japanese brands and Miura push the boat out when it comes to precision and performance, we have a very special US Masters Promotion.

The Pros Fiddle on Saturday was popular with 60 golfers joining in the single stableford. We normally host a better-ball event but I was asked to run a singles comp on this occasion so I was happy to oblige and it seemed quite popular and still didn't hold up play on the course for those not wishing to compete. 

There will be another Pro's fiddle this Saturday March 5th which will be a better-ball pair's stableford event, and as there's nothing on the next week either, we'll have a single stableford again on Saturday 12th March. When the club run a qualifying midweek stableford there are two divisions with full handicap but as there would be less playing in a winter event I decided to have one division with 90% allowance. Here are the results: 

Lewis will be in working with me again this Saturday and I must be a nasty Boss/Dad as it's his 16th Birthday!! I can't believe it's that long since he was born, I clearly remember driving home from the hospital in Leicester in the afternoon after being up all night and thinking how weird it was that two people drive to the hospital but then three of you come back and you haven't had to pay any money! Little did I know we'd have 5 years of no sleep from thereon, but only another year or so and we'll have a chauffeur! 


 

Many congratulations to junior member Hannah Golding who attended the Stafford Borough Awards ceremony last week and came away with the title of 'Staffordshire Most Improved Sports Performer of the Year'!!

Here's a report from junior organiser Steve Kanes:

"2015 has been a fantastic year for Hannah, not only at club level but at County and England Golf levels. Her achievements include, winning the Staffordshire Girls 36 hole Nett Championship; second in the Staffordshire Junior Order of Merit in both the Nett and Gross Divisions and winning the Staffordshire Girls U12 Championship.

At an England Golf level, she qualified via the ladies section to play in the Regional Final gold medal. This is awarded to the lady with the best four medal rounds during the (previous) year. The top ten players then go forward to the National Grand Final competing against ladies from all the other English Regions. Hannah came third and so went to the grand finale. Here she competed against much more experienced lady players and was by far the youngest competitor. Hannah came second in this National Championship. 

Hannah's handicap has dropped from 22 at the start of the season to 12.

We at Brocton Hall are all very proud of your achievements in 2015 and look forward to a successful 2016."
