What a fitting tribute we had to Carl Tindall on Saturday as a new trophy was presented by his family to the club in his memory for the annual Club v Scratch team match with 13 teams taking part.
The match was highly anticipated and as a scratch team member he would have been proud that the scratch team won 7-6. The format is great fun as three club member's play against one scratch team member, off the back stones, without anyone having any shots.
Good luck to the scratch team for the upcoming season - it's a great team in depth and Neil is a highly motivating captain.
At the club this Bank Holiday weekend we have a Pro's Fiddle on Saturday, the last day of British Winter Time. It is a three-ball Texas Scramble, white and red tees, with 1/6th handicap allowance and 4 tee shots to count for each golfer. Entry fee is £4 per person and there is no priority on the tee so you can still bring guests or play amongst yourselves if you wish.
Then on Monday we have a single stableford competition, played off the white or red tees, full handicap allowance and on Tuesday there is a junior competition.
Don't forget the Tuesday Social starts next week, tee off between 3pm and 6pm, £2 entry, single stableford 90% handicap allowance.
Congratulations to junior member Ethan Evans who has been called up for his debut in the Staffordshire County Junior team in a couple of weeks' time. I've seen Ethan's development over the past couple of seasons and I think this coming season will see him improve more than ever as he's now starting to play with a more stable club face and inwards release which is going to create some serious distance for him. These are some of the things we'll be covering on my Academy Night this week.
Congratulations to the runners in the Stafford Half Marathon on Sunday. We had great running conditions with no wind or rain and it was a great atmosphere with 3,500 people taking part, although only 2,734 managed to finish the 13.1 miles.
Happily all the Brocton Hall posse finished, although I was gutted for Frank Dellicompagni who runs every year and pulled a muscle just prior to the event. Greenkeeper Richard Quine beat all the members as he completed his first half marathon in an amazing 1hr 34mins (full marathon next then Rich!?) finishing just a minute in front of Peter Mason and Colin Smith, and some of the most impressive performances were at the rear of the field as people stepped out of their comfort zone and raised a lot of money for charity and raised the bar with their lifetime achievements.
Here's an alphabetical list of the Brocton Hall runners:
