Hello golfers,
If I was Danny Willett I'd definitely be dishing up chips with gravy for the Champions dinner in 2017 - what a heart-warming win and a fantastic week's golf spectacle the Masters was this year and it was especially good for British golfers with four Englishmen in the top 10. Maybe the Ryder Cup won't be the US dominated affair I feared that it would be this year?!
Monty Wins Masters Coverage
Did you see Colin Montgomerie commentating on the SKY coverage? He makes some good points - when he's not reminding us that he was the Ryder Cup Captain, but it wasn't the most inspired use of social media for SKY to invite questions for Monty to answer, with the hashtag #askmonty. They got a lot of very rude comments and of the ones I can publish, these are my favourites: "#AskMonty Have you ever been captain of the European Ryder Cup Team? If so could you talk us through your experience in depth"
"#AskMonty I just found out that you were a Ryder Cup Captain - why do you never talk about it?"
"#AskMonty I'm stuck in the toilet with no toilet roll. Any chance you could pass me some?"
"#AskMonty When you have a particularly satisfying meal, do you call yourself 'The Full Monty'?"
"#AskMonty When you talk why do you close your eyes and say everything twice?"
"#AskMonty Would you rather have a hand made out of ham or an armpit that dispensed suncream?"
That last one reminds me of the question that I have always wondered about - "Who would win a battle between a hundred duck sized horses and one horse sized duck?"
Sweepstake Results
Here are the results of our US Masters sweep, congratulations to the winners. Amazingly we didn't have Lee Westwood in the sweep, the names were taken off the current betting list a month ago and the bookies favoured Sandy Lyle and Ian Woosnam over Lee!

Els And Spieth Clinic
Back on planet earth, we have a couple of clinics at the golf club soon which are supported by two of the big names from the recent Masters tournament. Erne Els will be talking about how to accurately read your 6th putt, or how to tap-in one handed in only 2 easy steps. Jordan Spieth will be introducing the 6 hour round of golf for those who don't like to be away from a golf course - the only downside for this is you need a course that features a par 3 with lots of water on it to make the 6 hours more effective but luckily we have two of them.
A Real Free Clinic
Actually, there is a free clinic you can attend as I am hosting my 3rd Academy Night in the clubhouse on Thursday, 28 April after yet more people have asked me to give them the opportunity to see the presentation . It's free to attend, will run from 7:00pm to 8:30pm and is essential for anyone wishing to improve their game, learn what they DON'T need to work on and banish some golfing myths. Please click here if you'd like to book in. Non members are welcome.
Ken Wins Twice
Masters fever gripped Brocton Hall on Saturday as 184 golfers played in the first Medal of the year, 10 more than the highest ever entry last April. Although the medals are in divisions, there was a trophy for the overall winner which was Ken Skelton, playing in the worst of the conditions too. The very next day he was drafted in last minute to play in the Scratch Team, as they won their first match against Great Barr, what a weekend Ken!
Ladies Medal
In the first ladies medal of the year, 42 golfers played and new member Coleen Painter took the spoils playing off 16. I played with junior Captain Holly Hunt in the Tuesday Social this week and she came down 2 shots to 13 last year and promises to be knocking on the door of single figures this year, hitting a long ball.
Tuesday Social
The Tuesday Social had 44 entrants this week playing the back nine holes. Winning scores: 1st - Matt Aldred 24 points - £17 2nd - Wayne Bailey 20 - £14 3rd - Richard Gee 19 - £12 4th - Dave Taylor 18 - £10 5th - Ellie Treadwell 18 - £9 6th - Billy Mackie 18 - £8 7th - Maurice Braden 17 - £7 8th - Mick Dilworth 16 - £6 9th - Kevin Hunt 16 - £5
Order Of Merit Reminder
Remember, this year there is an order of merit with 1 point available for playing and points for the top 9 places. There will be a split into two divisions with new orders of merit starting for the lower division after 6 weeks.
Ladies Glenmuir Show Charlotte from golf fashion heritage brand, Glenmuir, will be at Brocton Hall on Wednesday 27th April to showcase the season's wares. Pop into the round room after your round and she'll have plenty of garments for you to see - Charlotte knows everything there is to know about materials, cuts, styles and more.
