Brocton Hall has been a little oasis for the past couple of weeks. The club is suffering a very fragile internet connection which keeps dropping out making running competitions difficult and in fixing that, BT managed to cut off our phone and internet for a week in the shop!
Hopefully this will get sorted soon but please bear with us as we try to manage the situation with regard to entering competitions and receiving results. On Wednesday Luke was entering 169 golfers into the computer, at times using his phone stood in the car park to get a reception, and was also trying to input scorecards into the system. Add to this that each of the three competitions that were running on the same day needed entering on a different website page and it was using the same computer that we use as the till. Carnage!
This coming weekend we have the Men's Centenary Salver Medal and we have skeleton staff in the shop. Lewis will be in charge and Isobel is coming in first thing on Saturday to help him out with the morning rush. They both know the process of booking into competitions very well - please make it as easy as possible for them to organise the start sheet. At times, it can be very taxing and pretty full on with everyone throwing money at you from all directions and works best when one person is in charge of the start sheet. Remember you can't start until 7:30, when the shop is due to open and you can only tee the 10th between 8:00 and 9:15am. Also consider that any groups teeing off the 10th will be filtering in on the 1st tee at around 10-11am.
It's great to have Isobel back - she had a new pacemaker fitted 2 weeks ago and she's already back in action - what a trooper she is. Katie and I are very proud of Lewis as well as he got his GCSE results last week and achieved 5 Grade A-Stars in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Music and Business Studies as well as 3 A's, 2 B's and 2 C's. His passion is playing guitar and he got 100% in his composition exam and 100% in his performance exam where he played Guns 'n' Roses anthem 'Sweet Child O' Mine'.
As the school summer holiday comes to a close, well done to Steve Kanes and also to his army of volunteers, mostly from the Ladies section who have supplied the juniors with a full calendar of events. There's too many results to mention and it's great to see golfers progressing in handicap, confidence and golfing prowess. The helpers are vital to run the golf for the juniors as each group of 2 juniors requires one volunteer to chaperone them around the course and as a club it's our responsibility to look after them whilst at our venue.
Please consider walking round for a game in one of the upcoming junior events, particularly going into 2017. If everyone helped in just one event through the year the juniors would be well looked after. Best wishes to Steve Kanes with his future activities both at the club and elsewhere.
LADY CAPTAINS AWAY DAY
Here's are some pictures from the Lady Captains Away Day held at Shrewsbury golf club earlier this month.
I hear it was a fantastic day and I've seen the song sheet for the bus journey home which was like a West End show!
