Here's a very nice message I received this week from a non-member who had visited us recently: 

'Hi Nev & Katie, 

Just to say thank you once again for a 1st Class service and fitting and a relaxed warm welcome with a coffee goes a long way! 

Once again it has been proven just how essential a fitting is. Who'd have thought I'd be hitting Mizuno Forged Tour irons (with 3 degrees more loft per club) higher, longer and with a softer shorter stop than my PING G30's! 

Also we fitted my Driver, 3 wood, rescues and wedges with matching thicker grips as in my irons and the results were incredible. As you had stated I did indeed loosen my grip on the clubs giving a much more free swing. This just goes to show how important even the grip is on fitting. Also taking 1" off the driver shaft actually increased distance by being more accurate. 

It's incredulous that people still buy clubs off the internet or shop shelf just because they like the look of them and they are probably cheap, what a mistake to make!

Well done to everyone at the club for a job well done as the club hosted the Staffs PGA Alliance last Thursday, with the course, catering and bar service all top notch. 

As the current Staffordshire PGA Captain, I'd also like to thank the members for allowing 120 golfers to compete on our course for the day - lots of Brocton members played, everyone supported the club with a meal and myself and my team decided to let the visitors win this year! 




The Captain-Pro series culminated on Saturday as the 5 winning pairs played off in a better-ball medal format for the trophy and it was a close run thing. Steve Hirst and Ken Skelton were narrowly pipped at the post as Martin Hunt and Dave Taylor shot the same score but romped home with a barrage of birdies to win on local rule. Well done to everyone who played - the Captain and I also joined in and played in the club competition running alongside it, as our Swansong. Thanks for a good year of matches Skipper! 




Much like the change in the weather, there's lots of changes in the Pro Shop this week - I have invested in CCTV with cameras in the shop and in the Loft Studio. We've had the cameras from upstairs linked to the TV in the shop so you'll be able to watch a fitting or lessons taking place from the warmth of the shop. 

How cold has it gone over the last week!!?? We've received a nice new display unit and you will find a nice range of Ladies Winter clothing from Daily Sports and ProQuip, plus we have FootJoy, PING Collection and Mizuno Thermo clothing adorning the displays.

I got to try out the 2017 Mizuno driver and fairway clubs last week. Here's a sneak peek: 

It launches in February but I've been allowed to have the reps demo clubs from the end of December so you'll get to see it first. Popular drivers this week have been the TaylorMade M2 which I'm very impressed with and the new Titleist 917. We've been upgrading them all to ACCRA or True Temper shafts which is a benefit of the way I build the clubs. We have to order the clubs with their generic OEM shafts in and then I take those shafts out and stick them in my inventory to be used later on to replace broken shafts and deduct this off the driver cost. So you can get a bespoke shaft option in your driver for a fraction of the normal shaft cost. 

For the golfers who already have a good shaft in their club, we can also do the 'Only Fools & Horses - Trigger's Broom trick' and merely replace the head. Winter is now a very busy time of year for clubs and I'm currently booking over a week ahead so get something in the diary now if you want to look at other options.
