1. Time sensitive in judging the time you play between teeing off whilst it's white over and enjoying the full splendour of winter golf, or allowing the sun to come out and thaw you and the course out a bit!
We're so lucky to play on the proper greens all year round and the argument for allowing that to happen is that the greens are great throughout the playing season. So many golfers from neighbouring clubs can't believe that we stay on proper surfaces and many of our members enjoy 'normal golf played in the winter', as opposed to 'winter golf'.
For lots of newer members who may have put their clubs away for the winter, Brocton encourages them to play all year round. I hear of more and more courses allowing full play in the frost and it's a hard argument to do otherwise when we showcase good greens. (Of course we're also fortunate to possess a forward thinking course committee and understanding, knowledgeable green staff who allow this to happen). Here's a picture of a lesson taken at 3pm on Tuesday - a real dedication buzz for this student!
2. Time sensitive with the start of Christmas, as the decorations have been beautifully displayed by the green staff and the ladies section this week.
Take a look next time you're up.
3. Time sensitive with the newly acquired period furniture which adorns the round hall, the look is perfect for the newly decorated rooms and I can't wait to fall asleep on one after I've missed the last taxi home from the Presentation dinner this Saturday night.
4. Tiger Woods' return is time sensitive as he tees it up on Thursday for the first time in a long while. So much has been written about his return.
The Bridgestone ball he is using is basically the Nike ball that he has used for a few years as apparently Bridgestone made these Nike balls, so no big surprise there. His irons are some old Nike models (or are they the Miura's that he was reported to play, stamped with Nike logo?). There are also rumours that Tiger is buying TaylorMade, which is up for sale, and he tees up with a TaylorMade M2 driver, 3 wood and 5 wood this week. Part of the mystique with a player like Tiger is that you never get to hear if these are true or not - and do we really care?
Well, yes, I would say we do because we're playing the same sport and it's like a soap opera at times. He looks like he's swinging much more freely now but the need for some smooth tempo is there as he plays with a high rate of club face closure so he may need a few rounds under his belt to see the best out of him. I'd like to see him back competing because I grew up admiring his dominance and I think he modelled his consistency on me.
5. We'll have a Pro's Fiddle this Saturday before the presentation dinner and we're going to do something different and play an individual Stableford with 90% handicap allowance.
There'll be two divisions like the midweek medals and you can play in 2's 3's or 4's. I can't think of anything to link this with the time sensitive them so go on to the next one...
