Well done to Neil and the rest of the committee for a successful Presentation Night on Saturday and to Club Champion Alan Kinvig who made a great winners speech. Neil had been so busy hosting the prize giving that I thought it was sensible of me and about 20 others to make sure he didn't flake out afterwards, but by 2am I felt it was safe to call it a day.
Above is a photo of the winning Captain and Pro pair, Martin and Dave, rubbing in their victory.
Neil asked me to pass his thanks on to Amanda and Emma for polishing all the trophies
Tiger mania was evident last week on the PGA Tour after a couple of absent years. He managed more birdies than anyone else in the field with 24, but also scored more double bogeys than anyone else with 6. How good is Hideki Matsuyama playing though - 4 wins out of 5 starts and the 5th event he finished a paltry runner up!
Can you believe the 2017 European Tour started this week but not just one event, two held consecutively! The Alfred Dunhill in South Africa and the Australian PGA in Brisbane. We were interested in watching the Brisbane event and checking out the weather! I'm taking my clubs when we go out there and my Uncle sent me the newsletter from his home club, Indooroopilly Golf Club. What was strange though was they were advertising their Christmas Sale event, particularly because they had just received stock of sunglasses, sun shawls and sun hats!
Even stranger was that they were commencing their off-season course maintenance now that summer was here and that they were looking forward to Christmas now Spring was over! Just imagine gearing up to play your main golf events through the winter in June.
What a truly international game this is that we play.
Here's a picture of Brocton member Neil Francis having just become the Shanghai International Open Champion with a gross 73 - explaining the surprised look on his face!
We held a Pro's Fiddle on Saturday and chose a single stableford format for a change. The scoring was very good with Neil Johnson winning with a gross score of 65, he hit every green in regulation apart from the 12th and scored 40 points.
