Congratulations to the Captain, Gerald Griffin for a successful weekend and to Andy Jones who won Captain's Day with a stunning nett 61 off 17 handicap after a very consistent round, and the best score of the year so far.
Also coming a close second was Mark Lynch with a nett 63 who was 1 over gross after 11 holes playing off 17 handicap!
There were 180 competitors and a full dining room on Friday and Saturday night for the Captain's social functions. The scoring in depth was the best we've seen all year, partly I think because it rained all Friday night which softened the green surrounds, and there were quite a few pins on the back of the greens which was where the balls would run to with fast green surfaces.
As with Presidents Day this year, there was also a junior 9 hole event following the main competitors. This was well supported and organised by Christine and was won by Edan Dollochin.
Good luck to Lady Captain Val Keeling for her day this week!
The Tuesday Social had a twist this week as we played the back nine and everyone had to use one 'Throw' of the ball.
Best thrower of the night was Sean Nelson who threw it out the bunker on the 10th hole and straight into the hole! The worst throw I heard of however was Mick Dilworth, who threw it out of the trees, back into the trees! He did still finish second in the competition though!
1st Daz Poole 21 points, 2nd Mick Dilworth 20 points, 3rd Neil Johnson 20 points, 4th Josh Smith 19 points 5th, Sam Harvey 19 points
The Open Championship starts next week at Hoylake, the sweep is nearly full and I know there's lots of you going to watch. Martin Kaymer is my pick again if the wind doesn't blow, otherwise someone with a bit of experience like Ernie Els or Ian Poulter would be my choice. I went in 2006 when the temperature was in the mid 30's and the course was burnt yellow, it will be interesting to see how different it looks this year.
