The Texas Scramble competition was won by Paul Edwards, Paul Hopkinson and Neil Flowers, narrowly beating Ian Partington, Mike Mason and John Maddox with Alan Birch, Alan Kinvig and Neil Johnson in third place. In total the top 13 teams won a prize and a full list of winners is on the club website, in the shop and bar. Thanks to Mike Mason who called me up after I’d published the results to say that we had the wrong Mike Mason on the computer - this took them from 1st to 2nd - an example of why it’s not always best to use a computer maybe? So, Ian Partington had a very ’Nearly' day as I thought they’d won, then they came second and he also achieved his first ever hole-in-one on the 3rd hole, slam-dunking it straight into the cup, only for me to have to inform him that it didn’t qualify for the hole-in-one pot as the sweep rule states ‘Any members competition counts where we charge £1.50 for two’s’. What was perhaps more harsh was that people didn’t think it should count for nearest the pin as the ball wasn’t on the green!! I think actually touching the flagstick qualifies as nearest the pin in my view! Well done Ian for a great day anyway. Nearest the pin on the 9th was John Hunt and Mike Dewsbury was nearest on the 17th off the original tee position. Mike was instrumental in running the charity challenges down by the lake in the evening, the Floating Green challenge and the Gong Shot. Through these events alone, we raised £350 for the Birmingham Children’s hospital and through other donations and bets on the 9th hole, the total going to the hospital is over £500 - well done everyone!
