A master class with Hannah

Hannah Golding quite rightly held the spotlight on SKY TV during the European Tour British Masters at Close House last week. Hannah was playing in the tournament preceding pro-am courtesy of winning another event earlier in the year and got to play with Ryder Cup player Nicolas Colsaerts, then she was picked out alongside the only other female competitor, Charley Hull, to feature in a SKY Centre excerpt with Nick Dougherty. Well done to Sky for recognising the value in highlighting Charley and Hannah’s attendance and well done to Hannah for ripping a few shots away in front of the cameras with Charley Hull’s blades!

Tuesday Social

The Tuesday Social was won by 20 points and this score has won most weeks this year. 31 golfers defiantly fought against Mother Nature turning the lights off this week with Peter Holford coming out on top, I reckon we may squeeze another two weeks into the calendar this year.

The pot nears its limit

The Hole-In-One pot currently stands at £487.20 which means if no one gets an ace in this weekend’s medal, the pot will have reached its maximum of £500 and another pot will start. Anyone who gets an ace in a competition where we charge £1.50 for two’s will then get the £500 pot half in cash and half in shop credit (if they’ve entered the 2’s). This includes Pro’s fiddles etc. Last year there were half a dozen hole-in-ones in competitions but only 1 this year from Roger Edwards when the pot was £74, plus of course Ian Partington in the Pro’s Day which didn’t qualify as there no two’s in a Texas Scramble. You’re obviously all trying too hard!

They are fantastic value and you can swing away with ease in the winter with a thin base layer, a stretchy mid layer and an insulating outer layer for less than £95 for all three items. Gone are the days of wearing a cotton shirt with a thick lambswool sweater on top - whilst these items are still fashionable and have their use, if you want to play with the freedom you do in the summer, and simply remove a layer when you’re too warm, layering is the key.

Workshop news

In the Workshop this week:

Simon was helping me out on Sunday as we re-fitted parts of the in-shop workshop. After 11 years of hard use, I’ve completely worn out one of my most useful gadgets, a shaft extractor, which is a device you won’t even find in many Pro Shops and as we emptied the contents of the workshop it was amazing how many items I had accumulated that were necessary to do the job efficiently.

As anyone who has attempted DIY projects will testify - if you want to do anything properly, you need the right gear.

Coaching news

Improve your golf

Well done to Julia Nicholls who shot a nett 69 and won the ladies medal last week and reduced her handicap in the process. Julia has been working on her short game this year and her driving, two very important elements at Brocton Hall, with one being the key to STAYING out of trouble and the other being the key for GETTING you out of trouble!

I had a lot of success with improving golfers last winter with our new Winter Academy, this year’s Academy consists of 4 lessons (as everyone was fixed after 4 sessions last winter!) and costs £130 including a golf ball fitting session.
