What a year it's been!

With the start of the new year I thought I'd take a look back at 2017. It's been a great year for Brocton Hall, filled with great events and much progress in many areas. Below is a list of key highlights from the year.

- June was my 15th anniversary as Pro at Brocton Hall.

- More golfers turned to us to benefit from our expertise whether it was via coaching or club fitting.

- The Tuesday Social witnessed over 200 participants through the season.

- The Pro's Day for men and ladies also had 200 golfers taking part and 160 revellers came to the party night.

- 200 was also the number of pairs of shoes that we displayed on the new shoe wall at any one time.

- A new second hand club section generated a way for golfers to sell on their old clubs and for others to update their kit.

- Lots of county juniors were introduced to the club to have their clubs optimised with me.

- Graham Southall and Mike Dewsbury were popular additions to the team.

- Lewis finished after 2 years working weekends to gain experience working in the Woolpack at Weston.

- Luke Howe successfully passed his PGA exams and set out on a playing schedule.

- I completed my 2 year stint as Staffordshire PGA Captain and remained on the committee.

- I acquired the amazing new GCQuad launch monitor providing extra functionality indoors and out.

- We launched a new Junior group coaching programme and another beginner ladies group.

- I completed my 550th weekly newsletter!

- We introduced a Hole in One sweep alongside the competition 2’s - it was won in April but not since then.

- I installed a unit on the practice area to house all the training aids and practice balls.

- We played with dozens of members in Pro-Ams around the midlands and further afield including Scottsdale, Sawgrass and Portugal with some notable wins.

- We raised £2000 for the Birmingham Childrens Hospital through various events.

Studio news

Get in the studio

2018 kicks off with the addition of a 4K High Definition simulator in the studio powered by the GCQuad above the shop. This will be available to rent for practice sessions or to play some of the worlds top courses and you’ll get masses of feedback about how far you hit each club as well.

We’ll have lots more availability for conducting yardage gapping sessions as these are proving a huge benefit to golfers, especially those who use distance measuring devices like GPS watches and lasers on the course.

Yardage sessions come with a full report of how far you hit each club as well as advice on creating the perfect yardage gaps plus I now have the benefit of showing you how you compare to other golfers of the same or similar clubhead speed thanks to my ever-expanding research database. The sessions last one hour and cost ONLY £40.

Club news

What's coming in 2018?

We are creating a huge indoor putting green and chipping area above the shop which will also be available to use for some dedicated practice and I’ll be conducting some short game clinics. The Staffordshire PGA Pro-Ams start again in March as does the Tuesday social and I’ve been inundated with requests for equipment consultations so everyone is hyping up for the main golf season.

We are planning some demo days this year, golf clinics, a coaching trip abroad, more fundraising for the Children's Hospital and much more so watch this space. Also as golfers have been light on the ground lately we are extending the Christmas Raffle to this coming weekend so you still have a chance to enter!
