Welcome to another edition of our newsletter, in this week’s mail we aim to help tick one off the bucket list, we invite you to Spain, two were tied at the top in the Tuesday Social, and we have promotions a plenty in the ProShop. Enjoy the read!

One for the bucket list The Players Championship takes place at TPC Sawgrass, Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida this week, often classed as the 5th Major in men’s golf. It’s the last year that it will be played in May as the major tournaments are being shuffled about to better allow for the Ryder Cup and PGA Playoffs. From next year it will be held in March which is when it used to be held until 15 years ago and the US PGA Championship will utilise this week in May, meaning the Open Championship will be the final Major of the year. I’ve played Sawgrass six times and it’s my favourite course even though it destroys you. We have a challenge each year to break 80 off the very back tees, 7,300 yards, which is further back than they play it in the tournament. Last year I took three Brocton members, Simon, Bill and Richard and I finished with par on 16, birdie 2 on 17, par on 18 to narrowly break 100 and loved every shot of it - that’s the way to get value for money! If you’d like to play there next year, the Pro-Am is being held again, the week after the Players Championship in March. We get to watch the last round of the tournament, stay in the players hotel and play the course twice the following week, as well as full use of Graham McDowells Nona Blue bar, the Ponte Vedra Ocean beach club and play four other magnificent courses with snakes and alligators, lots of fun! Click here if you’d like to join me or for more details. It’s a ‘bucket list’ venue that’s for sure. |
Your invitation to La Manga Another trip that I’d like to invite you on is coming up later this year at La Manga, Spain. I have space for 6 people to join me arriving Monday 3rd September and departing Friday 7th for a few days of coaching, golf and relaxation - not necessarily in that order. I was always hoping to get to La Manga as a player because that was where the European Tour School was held for many years - alas I never quite made it but the facilities are still great for a coaching/golfing trip and there are 3 courses to play. It’s only a two hour hop away from East Midlands and anyone is welcome to come along. You can make use of the days as you wish, relax by the pool and play some golf, join me on the short game area or full swing practice, or a mixture of everything. Spaces are limited so if you would like further details or register your interest, click here and I’ll get back in touch.

But by far the most popular promotion at the moment is the shoe trade in. We have over 250 pairs of shoes to choose from in men’s and ladies styles from ECCO, Skechers, Mizuno and FootJoy. I doubt you'll find a more extensive range in a Club Pro Shop in the Midlands, or maybe the country! Skechers are offering an amazing £40 trade in value for their Collegiate shoes which brings them down to £99! Elsewhere you can receive a trade in for your old shoes at the following rates on all our stock: - £10 trade in value with shoes up to £99 - £15 trade in value with shoes from £100 - £149 - £20 trade in value with shoes over £149 |

The offer lasts for another couple of weeks but don’t hang about as the stock is diminishing by up to ten pairs a day. Click here to find out more. |
One golfer who benefitted at the weekend is going to see a huge difference on the course. He traded in his 10 year old pair of DryJoys for the new ultra-light Mizuno Wave shoe. His old pair weighted 1.4Kg and the new pair weight just 700 grams. Imagine how much less effort he will be expanding whilst walking 5 miles around the golf course! If you don’t think that’s going to make a significant difference, try adding 700grams in extra weight to your shoes and go and play and see how worn out you are afterwards. When I worked as an assistant at The Leicestershire Golf Club, I used to walk 5 miles to work with weights strapped around my ankles, to start with there was no difference but by the last couple of miles you could really feel it in your legs. Great for training but not great of playing golf!!

Injury stops play I was due to be playing in the Foremost Golf Championships at The Oxfordshire this week but a back injury has forced me out, instead I’m writing the newsletter whilst sat on the patio overlooking the lake and newly opened 9th green modifications which look brilliant. Good luck to the ladies who are playing their ‘Club Day’ 27 hole event today with an evening party and prize giving. I’ve displayed a range of ladies garments, accessories and shoes on the prize table and there is a great variety of colours and ladies-specific equipment available these days.

Let’s face it: we all want to hit the ball further. Being able to hit longer drives gives you less club into the green, making everything that little bit easier. There are many ways you can try and generate more power during your swing, and nearly all of them start from the ground up. |
Trust your footwear Despite his small frame, tour star Rickie Fowler is renowned for his power. As you can see in the three images above, he pushes off from his right foot through impact and relies on great grip and stability to ensure the power his body is creating doesn’t come at the cost of control. Having a strong base is something we should all aspire for. The FootJoy Tour-S can help you do this thanks to its PowerStrap that enhances support, plus its nine cleats per foot that offer maximum stability across a range of terrains. |
