Some golfers were also disqualified for placing the ball on the fairways. Due to the amount of debris on the course due to the high winds the previous Saturday for the Nations Cup, preferred lies was put in place for that event and some golfers who had played in the Nations, assumed that it was still in place for this weekend. Preferred lies is a temporary Local Rule that can be put in place and as the R&A states - "The Local Rules should be displayed prominently in key locations such as the locker room, pro shop and the first tee or starter’s hut.” If the local rule isn’t displayed, then it doesn’t exist. At Brocton we have a Local Rule board in the hallway by the side entrance, we also advertise the Preferred Lies local rule in the board in the side of the Pro Shop and we advertise it on the competition description sheet which is printed for each event and sits on the shop counter. If the rule isn’t in any of these location, it isn’t in existence. Historically we don’t go to preferred lies until the 1st November and it usually remains until the clocks change at the end of March but these dates can be changed. The dramatic changes to the Rules of Golf come into existence on the 1st January next year and I’m going to be highlighting and explaining some of the new ones over the next few weeks to help everyone adjust. ***Please take extra care and repair those pitchmarks in the greens. If your ball lands on the green, you will have made a mark and need to find it and repair it.*** |
