Welcome to another edition of our newsletter, in this week’s mail we take a look at our 125th anniversary logo, the refurbishment of the clubhouse bars has just about reached completion, and we highlight some great shop offers. Enjoy the read!

Three out of five... Did you see the Honda Classic winner, Keith Mitchell, using the new Mizuno driver just two weeks after it was launched? His caddie, nicknamed ‘Crunchy Pete’ calls himself the caddie version of Bear Grylls, sleeps under the stars and showers in waterfalls! His $122,000 commission is going to go a long way!
On the Ladies European Tour, Ann Van Dam won her 3rd event in 5 starts. The Dutch destroyer launches the ball over 300 yards with an amazingly effortless technique - a video of her swing received over 1 million views on Twitter in less than 24 hours. I’ll show you how she hits the ball so far in next week’s newsletter.

125th anniversary logo... To celebrate the golf clubs 125th anniversary, we’ve produced a limited edition logo which will feature as embroidery on lots of garments in the Pro Shop as well as on ball markers and golf balls this year. It’s a huge milestone and one that’s easy to under-appreciate - Just imagine the world they lived in when the club was founded in 1894. I didn’t even register that it was a significant year until last autumn when someone rang up from Spain and asked for a 125th anniversary ball marker to be sent to them!

The scratch team will be featuring the special logo on their team outfits and match secretary and Vice-Captain, Mark Newman, hopes that everyone representing the club in the men’s matches will do the same. We’ve selected the ever-popular FootJoy classic shirt in Heather Grey for the team shirt which shows the logo up well in it’s true colours and goes with every other colour. We’ve negotiated a bulk discount for the initial order and they’ll be £39.99 including the logo. Anyone who has worn the shirts will tell you how well they last - we’ve used them for our staff shirts for 3 years and they don’t even need any ironing! To pre-order one please click below and let me know your preferred size - I would class them as average size, options for trial are available in the Pro Shop.

A new look... The refurbishment of the clubhouse bars has just about reached completion, the carpeting looked like a very tricky operation and involved some serious elbow grease and a couple of all-nighters! Well done to everyone involved in a complex project - I’m sure we all deliberate long and hard over re-decorating our own lounges at home, just imagine the options to choose from for a listed building that has to tick so many boxes. |
Of course we all know the real reason the clubhouse bar areas have been refurbished extensively, it’s obviously in readiness for the long-awaited return of the Tuesday Social golf which starts again on the 2nd April!! This will be our 10th year hosting the weekly event and I’m looking forward to playing in it again myself - 9 holes in the evening is such a great way of finishing off a busy day and de-stressing, plus it’s a perfect opportunity to put some winter practice into action or try out new clubs with a scorecard in your pocket. For any newer member, or someone who wants to get to know others, simply turn up between 3pm and 6pm, enter the £2 single stableford in the Pro Shop and play from either the 1st or 10th tees. We all congregate in the bar afterwards where Katie organises the results with the aid of some ‘focus-juice’ - (glass of wine) - and I announce the prize winners. We also have a Facebook page where the results are posted each week and of course there’s the prize everybody wants to win - the Tuesday Social Reserved Parking Space which is yours for a week.

Join the Pro’s Fiddle… There was nothing on last weekend and as an experiment I didn’t even put a Pro’s Fiddle on and it was great to see so many members continuing to get their golf fix this winter. Of course it’s not ‘Winter Golf’ at Brocton Hall, it’s just normal golf played in the winter - proper greens, dry fairways, normal trolleys and good putting surfaces. Whether we put an event on or not, roughly the same people play, however LOTS of golfers have asked me to organise something to play in, so this weekend we’re hosting a Pro’s Fiddle on Saturday. It will be a Pairs Better-Ball Stableford, 90% handicap, from the white or red tees. There’s no priority on the course in the competition and if you need fixing up just let me know. An email or a phone call would be preferable but I’ve also been contacted via the new technology known as P.I.N.O.W - ‘post-it-note on windscreen’ so it’s all good.

Great offers available… There’s lots for you to get involved in at your Pro Shop right now, not least the stunning range of clubs and woods. This week we’ve seen great consistency, accuracy and distance solutions for golfers with the Titleist TS2 and Titleist TS3, TaylorMade M6, Callaway Epic Flash, Mizuno ST190G and the Cobra F9 Speedback.
We also have some great Pro Shop promotions involving grips and bags for your benefit:
FREE Golf Pride grip - We’re down to our last few free grips so bring your 7-iron into the shop and choose a fresh new grip for it. It was only launched on Social Media on Friday but we’ve already got the European Tour’s most popular grip, the Z-Grip cord, in stock in the new Align style.
Golf Bag Trade In - Another opportunity to get some money back for a worn out item - £20 trade in value on your old golf bag for a new one. Modern bags are light, sturdy and some are waterproof too and start from under £100.

Driver technology continues to be the hot topic of conversation in the golfing world, as brands search for ways of giving us more forgiveness, greater distance and better accuracy off the tee. So, which drivers are really pushing the boundaries this year? |
Introducing G410 Plus from PING The first thing you'll notice on the G410 Plus driver is its Moveable-Weight technology on the back perimeter of the club (seen above). This allows us to custom fit you into one of three positions - draw, neutral and fade - which will promote a left, neutral or right shot direction to cancel out your destructive miss. What does that mean? Well, quite simply, more fairways hit! Finding the right club for you can be a serious game-changer and sure-fire way of lowering your scores, and the best way of doing this is by taking advantage of our professional advice during an eye-opening custom fitting. |
