Greetings from Nevil Bland
Brocton Hall Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Claim your FREE grip now!!

Here’s a promotion that has the potential to knock some shots off your score this winter!

We’re giving away a FREE grip to every reader of this newsletter – all you have to do is to drop your number 7 iron into the shop, have your hand measured for the correct grip size, choose your preferred grip from our range of 25 different ones and then pick the club up later with your choice of brand new grip installed to your perfect size!

There’s just a £1 gripping charge to cover the cost of the tape etc but remember that it will be to your exact size and the grips cost up to £11 each!

But that’s not all!! - IF YOU DON’T LIKE THE FEEL OF YOUR GRIP OF CHOICE, WE’LL TAKE IT OFF AND CHANGE IT FOR A DIFFERENT ONE AT NO COST.

You won’t get an offer like that on the internet!! Some days, like this Friday, we’ll be able to hand you your club back straight away – we use compressed air to put the grips on so there’s no drying time to wait for. Choose from ladies, gents, midsize, cord, colourful and many more from our industry-leading grip wall display and see one of the reasons I was nominated for Foremost Pro Of The Year 2O14.

As preferred lies come into play this week, now is the perfect time to get your golf equipment prepped for the winter season, especially your grips, spikes and trolleys. We’re lucky at Brocton in that we don’t so much play ‘Winter Golf’, it’s more like ‘Normal golf played through the winter’! Whilst others are sloshing about on mud, chipping to temporary greens and playing off slippy mats, we still play proper greens and the fairways are going to be the best we’ve ever seen this winter.

Re-spikes – Have a look at your spikes, if they’re worn then you can replace your grip back to the level the shoes provided when they were brand new, for less than a tenner. Don’t wait until you’ve slipped on a slope to remind yourself! Some golfers are having soft spikes replaced and others are opting for the metal or hybrid options – whichever you prefer.

Trolley servicing – Did you see my video about trolley axle blocks wearing out. Since then, almost every trolley we’ve seen has the axle rubbing against the battery tray as the axle blocks have been too worn, causing the batteries to have to work harder than they are intended. A winter service costs just £25, you get a full report of what’s been checked and we’ll even test your battery and charger. Motocaddy and PowaKaddy trolleys only.

Winter golf trip

Fancy a week away in the sun at an all-inclusive resort at the end of March? We’ve teamed up with Golfbreaks for another year of golfing fun in the sun as we return to last years' venue, Agadir in Morocco. The European mens and ladies tour played the week before us this year and the weather, courses and hospitality was fantastic at all the venues. Whether you want lots of friendly golf, expert coaching, relaxing, socialising, sunbathing or a mixture of all of them, the week has it all. Click here to request more details.

Christmas Greetings and Eatings

Sorry to bring the ‘C’ word up but our popular Christmas night is coming up in a month’s time - can you believe that! From 2pm until 7pm on Thursday 27th November, we’ll be launching the Christmas season in the Pro Shop and Justin will have a special menu available for the night with some choices for you to tuck into. It’s something we’ve done since I first came to Brocton as I was aware that many of the members ‘other halves’ had never even seen the shop. It’s great to see lots of you on the night, share a free drink on us and pick at your first Christmas chocolates of 2014! So, put the date in your diary and we’ll see you there.

Congratulations to our latest ‘Wall of Success’ signee, Shaun Davison who shot a stunning nett 64 on a windy Sunday to race up the leaderboard from 7 shots behind and win the hotly contested Owen Cup, awarded to the best combination of scores during the year. He didn’t win the Collier Trophy competition however as Nick Sandy and Dave Parkes also shot 64’s with Dave winning on local rule.

The Vets Trophy run on the same day was won by Bob Taylor with a nett 70, winning again on local rule from Brian Sumner.

Paul Hodkinson has his Motocaddy trolley stored in the members trolley shed, sometime last week his handle was broken on the trolley whilst it was in the shed. Please be careful when removing your trolley. My eldest, Lewis, cleaned it up considerably last week and we will soon be creating some more room in there.

Mizuno fitting Day

There are a couple of spaces left on our Mizuno fitting day which is Monday 3rd November. The day is free of charge, indoors and you can book your 30- minute appointment with the Mizuno tech rep in the shop or call the shop on 01785 661485 or click here to send us an email with your preferred time and we’ll get back to you.

Srixon Ball Fitting Day success

The Srixon ball fitting day last week was very interesting. 10 golfers took a 15 minute slot and compared the Srixon golf balls against their current preferred ball. The results were very mixed:

  • 1 golfer hit the ball the most consistently with a driver that the Srixon rep had seen all year and was already using the right ball for him – AD333,
  • 1 golfer hit the fastest consistent ball speed seen in 2 years and uses 2 different drivers with a different ball suiting each driver – AD333 Tour and Z-Star XV,
  • 1 golfer was using the right ball but the wrong driver!
  • 3 golfers gained accuracy from using a less spinning premium ball – Z Star and AD333 Tour
  • 3 golfers gained considerable distance (30 yards in one case) with a less spinning ball – AD333 and Soft feel
  • 1 golfer hit the ball straighter with the 2013 version of the Soft Feel ball via less slice.

The Srixon tech rep was quite honest and passionate about telling the truth rather than just trying to sell golf balls, i.e. if the driver was wrong, or the ball didn’t affect distance, etc, he would tell the customer. I was also tracking the shots with my FlightScope and the results agreed with his launch monitor results.

For every golfer there was a perfect ball to either match the club head speed, reduce sidespin or increase the ball speed – whichever was the most required aspect to improve.

2-piece balls - The Soft Feel (green box) and AD333 (blue box) good for reducing sidespin and generating distance with moderate swing speeds.
3-piece balls - The AD333 Tour (black box) good for reducing backspin especially with harder hitters for longer drives.
4 -piece balls - The Z-Star (gold box) and Z-Star XV (silver box) good launch and spin for faster swingers.

If you missed the day, pop into the shop and have a look at the slideshow I’ve created for the screen behind the counter, alternatively why not book your own FREE 20 minute ball-fitting in the Loft studio?

FREE golf ball personalisation

From now until mid-December, Srixon and Titleist are both providing FREE text personalisation on any of their golf balls. Minumim purchase is 1 dozen and this means that you get the balls at a reduced price anyway compared to the three ball price. You can have three lines of text, black on the Titleist and black, blue, red or green on the Srixon’s.

Many of you will already have seen pictures of Titleist’s new 915 woods and they’ll be arriving in store next month. Watch our video on what you can expect from this exciting launch and how we can work together to fit you for your perfect set of woods.
