How many have you played?
Sometimes a theme jumps out at me when drafting this newsletter and this week was no exception. One of our members last week asked me what was the total number of golf courses I’ve played on which is something I keep meaning to spend some time researching and getting a number to. I’ve no idea, but I would guess somewhere between 300 and 400. Then, the very next day I received a call from a Mr. Norman Langford who was enquiring about coming to play at Brocton Hall. He was very keen to ascertain if the course was indeed in as good a condition as I claimed it was, eventually explaining that it would be the 500th golf course he has played.
The following day Norman arrived with pal, Tony (who I think himself had played over 580 courses), paid their green fees, chatted with the President, Ian Graham, who was at the club and went out to play. Here’s his feedback I received that night:
"Hi Nevil…Tony and I really enjoyed every aspect of our visit to Brocton Hall today. I’ve played some super and prestigious courses over the years and had not really anticipated my 500th to rate as truly memorable amongst them. How wrong I was. We absolutely loved everything from the tremendous hospitality you showed us on arrival, the wonderful course and the clubhouse hospitality. Tony and I are scheduling your seniors event next year into our diaries and I’ve written to a golfing couple whom my wife and I regularly play with to see if we can make a mixed event there in 2020. Regards and best wishes, Norman.”
