Party time...
What a great atmosphere we had in the Pro Shop last week with our party night, huge thanks to all the members and staff who came along and celebrated with us.
We’d turned the gripping station into a DJ booth with some proper record decks, had a great night playing some old vinyls and then continued the theme over the next couple of days. |
How a proper pro shop should be…
I remarked in my newsletter a few weeks ago about how many visitors come into the shop and remark ‘Wow, this is how a proper Pro Shop should be’. By that, they mean evidence of a Professional at the sport in residence, not a budget, a miniature attempt at an American Golf. We’ve taken that attitude many steps forward over recent months and each time we make an adjustment to the shop, it’s to add experience.

On Saturday morning a County junior golfer with her Dad visited from Leicester on a wet, dreary, cold day and as they walked into the shop they couldn’t believe how much the place was buzzing. The coffee bar was full as golfers mingled together waiting for their playing partners, the embroidery machine was chugging away in the corner, the juniors for the group coaching were arriving along with their parents who were armed with books and iPads to while away their time whilst the coaching took place and we had the vinyl records blasting out some 70’s classics. The 13 year old County golfer had never even heard of vinyl records and will certainly remember the name of the venue where she not only saw them first, but had a go and lined up some tracks, set the rpm level and cross-faded from one deck to the next! And this was all before hitting a single shot. |
| Here’s a pic from our security camera on Saturday with 21 people in the shop. |

(If you know of anyone who would like to join the community that is Brocton Hall, we currently have just 3 vacancies left for membership and the deal is 15 months for the price of 12.)

Getting in the spirit…
The ladies have been busy this week putting a lot of effort into decorating the clubhouse for Christmas and it looks fantastic.

Golf Club community hub
We’re all being bombarded on every media channel left, right and centre with Black Friday deals at the moment but I believe it’s the experience that should be the bedrock domain of the golf club Professional and Pro Shop. Here’s a photo of 4 of our members who popped in mid-round on Friday to share some of their birthday cake, sip some freshly ground coffee and get revved up for their second nine holes. I put a picture on Twitter calling it a ‘Golf Club community hub', rather than merely retail and received nearly 2000 engagements with it, I even had a couple of people asking if did Weddings and Birthdays with the DJ set up!
Just today I got sent a picture of a ‘well displayed’ retail Pro Shop where everything is very neatly tidied away in bespoke shelving, but with a temporary Black Friday sale poster hanging off the front offering 20% OFF everything as they weren’t selling anything.
The great British High Street is following a similar trend towards experiences, hence the success of events such as German Christmas Markets and Stafford’s Walking street parties and everyone having a go at offering you more bang for your buck in this way deserves every success in my opinion.
