A new role for the Brocton Hall team...

Another change this week is that Katie and I (actually more Katie, than I) have adopted the role of Staffordshire PGA Secretary after Rowland Hill and Trevor have retired following almost a decade looking after the county. I’m on the Staffs PGA Committee and we spent a day this week visiting some of the golf clubs which are due to host our Winter Pro-Am Alliances and it’s going to prove to be such an interesting experience to see how other golf clubs go about the same business of golf and memberships.

We’ve met all the Secretary Managers and Caterers and it increases my belief that there’s a lot of nice people involved in golf including those that don’t play the game but are smitten by the camaraderie that the game induces. We went to see one club which had glass windows facing the walkway where the members would walk past continuously and I asked if they got bothered by people knocking on the window (we had moved our own counter away from the window in the past as everyone got in the habit of knocking the window for the door code). “Yes, but we love it when the members engage with us” came the reply and to prove the point a huge bag of sweets appeared which were always offered out the window to the person making the enquiry! It worked both ways as there was a steady stream of chocolates and cakes being delivered indoors!

Brocton Hall has always supported the county events tremendously, both in terms of playing in events with us professionals and in allowing the club to host Professional tournaments and it’s our hope that the rest of the county join our example and we can re-invigorate the sense of community and team spirit that winter golf events exude and that we certainly strive to exemplify every day in the pro shop at Brocton Hall. Katie will also be arranging and hosting the County PGA Strokeplay, Matchplay and Open tournaments and if you would like to seek some notoriety through sponsorship of these events, or our own Brocton Hall Pro-Am which we usually organise on the clubs behalf, we’re very open to your suggestions.
