New hole signs
The green staff are installing the new hole signs this week which look very smart and they’re made from recycled material too. Fortunately they’re weatherproof as well which comes in handy with the forecast for Sunday! A renowned local forecaster has warned of the possibility of 75 mph gusts with 55mph widely expected - which would class as hurricane conditions for the Midlands, plus an inch of rain to wash it down. They feature the new correct yardages in readiness for the World Handicap system on November 1st. New scorecards will also be out soon which will include the slope rating for each measured course. |
Your shot allowance calculated from your handicap will vary based on the course you’re playing on and the tee of the day, but never fear, by November we will be experts in guiding you through the simple process and I’ll be attending the County Handicap committee meetings to make sure we know the system inside out. I think you’d be wise to get your golf in on Saturday this week! We have a pro’s fiddle for anyone wishing to play. It will be best 2 scores from 3, stableford, with all 3 scores to count on the par 3’s. Of course if there’s 4 of you due to play, the 4th person can play along individually for fun. Entry fee is £5 per person including 1’s and 2’s sweep with 90% handicap allowance off the white tees and 100% of handicap for red tee golfers - if you need fixing up, let us know and as always there’s no priority on the tee in Pro’s fiddles.

Studio refurbishment
Plenty of golfers are taking the decent winter conditions to take a lesson with myself or Mike and our studio re-fit continues which turns out to be quite a mammoth task with some fiddly finishing work. It will look very impressive in the end though and we’ve just received 308 hooks, one for each shaft which will be on display, as well as 15 metres of colour changing LED light strips which will make it look super-cool. Even just attaching the hooks, which have to be a precise distance apart, takes a long time - just 1 minute per hook equates to over 5 hours!
I’m already planning for the next stage of refurbishment however, as when one area smartens up, it’s noticeable how another area needs an update to look as good.

Weekly tips I was going to include some examples from our lessons this week as myself and Mike discuss what we’ve worked on with people and some similarities have cropped up that you can learn from. I’ve run out of time so I’ll aim to explain all in next weeks newsletter. Basically, there are two styles of backswing and two corresponding styles of impact. You can have a hybrid that works well with one style of backswing and changing to the other style at impact. You can also have a hybrid that definitely doesn’t work with the other style of backswing changing to the wrong style of impact and this is the trap that a lot of golfers fall into. Some tremendous golfers have fallen into this trap, most famously Tiger, Seve and Ian Baker-Finch. I’ll explain all next week!

Did you know we price match competitors? There's often a perception that small, local businesses are more expensive than your high street or online shops, which couldn't be further from the truth in our case. Not only do we offer you a fantastic and professional service, but we also offer a Price Match Promise against our main competitors. So, if you see a product cheaper elsewhere, pop by the shop and have a chat with a member of the team. |

Already this year we've seen the release of new drivers and irons (nothing unusual in that), but now we have something else to show you and we're excited to say they'll be arriving with us soon! |
| Srixon Q-Star Tour golf balls
Many of you will be big fans of the AD333 ball from Srixon, which has been a mainstay in its range since 2003 - albeit, being improved upon every couple of years.
Well, sitting alongside it for 2020 is the Q-Star Tour, which delivers tour-level spin and distance but in a remarkably soft cover - whilst being at a brilliant price point too! |
