I wouldn’t be surprised if Tiger Woods soon becomes a brand ambassador for TaylorMade as he’s changing his swing almost as often as they change their drivers! His new swing is based on his old swing from his junior days which should see him stress his body less. There can’t be anyone in golf who has first hand experience of so much variety of swing technique as Tiger has had over the past two decades, but don’t forget how good his record has been throughout that time! I’d liken it to a music band successfully re-inventing themselves to stay current in the industry for years, then setting out on a greatest hits tour – all the good old bits would be there but there’d be some good newer stuff in there as well. Here’s where I’d normally wrap the paragraph up with an attempt at a topically musically referenced closing line but there’s so many options:
- Only time will tell which record he’ll play.
- We’ll soon see if he’s in or out of tune.
- Who knows whether the old tunes will still be the best?
- Will he reach the top of the pops again now?
I’ll admit none of them are startling and I’m sure you’re already thinking of a better one so please click here to send me your own!
Here’s a photo of a ball that was found by the green staff on the 13th hole as they were clearing out the undergrowth by the green. They found about 300 balls and this Titleist ProV1 had insulating tape tightly wrapped around it. On removing the tape, it turned out there was a crack in the ball, hence the tape I guess.

Last week we fixed up 50 people for the Turkey Trot competition and most of these were last minute on the Friday. Just leave us your phone number and the time you’d like to play, if we don’t get anyone fixed up within a day we send the message out on the online system. Apologies for all the emails you receive but it works and gets more people playing golf more often which is what we’re here for!
The Turkey Trot winners were Mike Dewsbury and Neil Johnson with 46 points, winning by 4 shots. Mike said to me before he went out that there wasn’t much point in them playing as they had 2 shots between them, he said they’d have to shoot 8 under par to win. Funnily enough this is exactly what they did shoot with Mike slotting 7 birdies himself and Neil parring his 2 shot holes for a 10 under total!
Charity match
The President and I played a charity match against Don Gillam and Colin Lovatt on Sunday and had a great match, ultimately losing out on the 17th. Don stated his intent with a birdie, nett eagle, on the 1st hole. ‘Not bad for a combined age of 162’ they commented to which I suggested that their combined age compared to ours of 104 meant that they had so much more local knowledge than us and it would have been fairer to let me have a couple of shots, but I think their hearing aids must have been off!
The clubhouse refurbishment is nearing completion and the new chandelier was fitted last week, here’s Chairman Steve Bloxham after giving it some elbow grease.
Thanks to everyone who came to our Golf Centre Open Day and Christmas event last Thursday and thanks to Isobel, Luke, Katie, Harry and my two boys Luke and Simon for their help on the day. We had plenty of takers for mince pies and refreshments and some challengers for the golf events. Bill Whittle won the putting challenge by sinking 132 consecutive 6 foot putts and Steve Metcalfe won the 82 yard pitching challenge with an impressive 26 points, hitting all 10 shots within the 22 diameter target zone.
