Thankfully the grassfire on Cannock Chase in Brocton was controlled by an army of firefighters on Tuesday evening. Apparently Dorothy Pugh was making cups of tea for the firemen - what a legend! It got very close to properties and just goes to show how dry everywhere has gone, we've hardly had a drop of rain during the lockdown period. I was out on the course this week and it's starting to look great in readiness for our return. I was expecting a lush growing period without any golfers on the course and for the matting to have totally disappeared under a green carpet on the pathways but there's been little growth with it being so dry. You'll certainly have to allow for a bit more run than you were getting last time you played. I've been fortunate enough to have almost 20 training sessions and seminars on Zoom, HouseParty or Skype and one of the beauties with golf is that everyone is prepared to share information and help the bigger picture, as golfers we're all in this together with a great community behind us. The daily videos I've been putting on the Brocton Hall Tuesday Social page have been viewed by most of the 200+ members on there daily and this week I invited your swing videos to be sent in and have been going through those. It's going to be nice again this week followed by a showery week, so get recording your swing videos in the sunshine and send them to me. You can send them on WhatsApp, Messenger, on the Facebook page and any other way you can find. You don't have to be hitting a ball in the video - I record a 2 minute video with a way to fix your worst shot and then record another video which is a bit more involved and is for those that want to learn how the golf swing works. The series I ran over 18 days to title the holes on the course was great fun and there were some really inventive names put forwards. I've started a new daily series today on Facebook where I'm sharing course management tips for each hole and I'd like your key tips for how you traverse the holes at Brocton Hall. Each level of golfer and style of play will have different methods and we can learn from all of them so lets get sharing that 'local knowledge'. As always, if there's anything I can do to help, even if it's collecting some shopping or adding something to my shopping list to drop off to you - just let me know. I'll be out renovating the practice area ready for our return but the shop phone is diverted to my mobile - just make sure you call the shop number direct which is 01785 661485 and that's the same number if you needed to complete your subs by card. Until we meet up again, virtually or otherwise, take care and keep in touch.
