I don't wish to be typically British and start the newsletter by mentioning the weather, but what about the weather lately! In fact, what about the weather all this year. Months of floods followed by two months of drought followed by a month of storms. A few years ago we had a similar storm at the same time of year and as I exited the clubhouse in the morning and stood on the steps, I was aware of something moving on the floor. Suddenly the whole tarmac was alive as I realised there were a million tiny frogs hopping along the ground. For two days we were sweeping them out the shop and they got into the far reaches of the locker rooms and showers as they attempted to get from the 9th lake to the 17th. Another storm that's brewing is the battle of the brands in our fitting studio. As we've opened up our doors fully this week, I've added the new models from Miura, PXG and Callaway to complement TaylorMade, Srixon, Mizuno, Titleist, Cobra and Cleveland. There really is something for every style of golfer, every ability level and every budget. I'd love to let you have a tour of the new studio but we're booked up for a few days and we've implemented strict COVID procedures meaning I have a gap between each session to clean everything and there's so much good gear on view, people can't help touching the clubs. It shows how golf is such a tactile affair, watching reviews and reading the marketing blurb is only a fraction of the story compared to holding a club yourself and giving it a 'waggle' and a hit. Every fitting and yardage gapping receives a recommended sleeve of balls to use and keep afterwards and I've created inventive ways of measuring hand size and length measurements without getting near the golfer. The feedback so far has been great and we've made it feel so much more spacious. I'll post some pictures on Facebook. |
