Celebrating My 18th As of last Friday, I've celebrated 18 years as the PGA Professional at Brocton Hall and for more than 17 of those years I've had my 'work Mum' by my side as Isobel has been with me almost every step of the way. She's had a frustrating time recently, being in complete lockdown for 12 weeks but gets 'released' this week - and then she's due to retire in a weeks time, although I'm not sure she's looking forward to putting her feet up as you would have expected! Over the years, I consider myself lucky to have shared the time with Isobel, we've shared both families growing up, a recession and now a pandemic, many Christmas parties, Birthdays and countless stories and cups of coffee together. Thanks, Isobel for putting up with me for all that time and I look forward to the retirement party when we can finally have it! It was nice to see my Mum who popped over for a socially distant garden visit last week, all the way from Oadby in Leicester. Had we left it another week, who knows when we'd have met up? Local lockdowns appear to be a future scenario but one that hopefully not many of us need to worry about, especially as we are just beginning to see further relaxation of the guidelines. Please bear in mind when you come to the golf club, that many of the procedures are still in place and are there for the continued safety of all the members and staff.
Huge thanks to the army of 65 volunteers who have helped out at the 'Check-In' desk for the past 8 weeks. Everyone has commented that it's been a great experience to meet other members and chat with a different demographic of golfers. After this week, we should be able to conduct the checking-in from within the Pro Shop, as hopefully, the number of people allowed in the Shop will move from 2 to 3.
News From The Club Simon has enjoyed the time operating the halfway house plus he's enjoyed earning the extra pocket money AND it's got him keener on playing golf than he has for years. He now has more A-Level classes to attend and we need him in the Pro Shop to help out now that we're fully open, so he won't be there to meet you with a smile and a chat now apart from competition days. Initially, the club's plan was to keep the halfway house closed but I know the coffee machine is popular and so we offered to keep it open with his help - thanks for your huge effort over the past 2 months Simon! Hopefully, once the clubhouse opens, the coffee machine should be available at the halfway house for your own use again. The club have announced qualifying competitions which are due to start on the 11th July, so for this weekend, we'll host another Pro's Fiddle on Saturday. We'll use this as a test case - hosting a single Stableford and marking the cards in the same way as you will do for the qualifying comps. It will be open to all white and red tee golfers, single Stableford, full handicap with 1 extra shot for the ladies off the red tees and the entry fee is £5 including 1's and 2's sweep. If you need fixing up, just join in a spare slot on the tee sheet. |
