Happy New Year to one and all!
If you need some New Year’s Resolutions – here’s a few suggestions:
- If you make a speech, think of a more original ending than ‘Have a safe journey home’.
- If anyone in your group hits their tee shot left on the 4th hole at Brocton, resist saying ‘That should come down from there’
- If someone’s ball falls off the tee peg, resolve to not being the person to announce ‘1’.
- If you become Captain of a club, society etc – your Vice Captain is NOT responsible for the weather.
- If you write a weekly newsletter, don’t dictate what people can and can’t say.
Oh well, I’ve just broken my resolution already.
We came to the golf club on Christmas Day and it was a brilliant occasion, the food was first class and the staff created a great atmosphere with a room full of nearly 90 people. Everyone I spoke to was of the same mind and we’ve already booked for this year – I’d suggest getting in quick if you want to do the same.
I hope you’ve avoided all the bugs that have been going around or if you did catch them, that it was on the week the course was closed for snow! Unfortunately just one inch of snow always seems to freeze and close us for a week, especially when everyone’s off on holiday!
The rearranged Canadian Greensomes is due to be played this coming Saturday and after a weeks rest the course is looking great.
We have lots planned for 2015 including:
- Cleveland Wedge and Srixon fitting centre of excellence – wedges here early February.
- Playing with as many members as possible – details next week.
- Pro’s day for ladies, Pro’s day for men – Pro’s party night and presentation – September.
- The Brocton Hall Pro Am – August, entries open now.
- Launching the Tuesday night social golf in April.
- Pro’s Golf days away – come and have a game at a top venue.
- Winning back the Dartmouth Bowl (I did say it was a plan)
- Short game clinics.
- Seniors, Ladies, beginners and juniors group coaching.
- Putting clinics.
- 10 yards on your drive challenge.
- 10 foot putt challenge.
- Demo days
- Open days
- And much more…
We’ve been busy in the shop since my last newsletter with phase #3 of my winter shop re-fit taking place. The goal was to move the workshop down from above the shop to bring a unique aspect to the space, so everyone will be able to see what professional custom clubmaking entails. The bench grinders and shaft cutters are safely in the rear of the shop with the measuring gauges, frequency analysers and gripping station ‘spreading out’ onto the shop floor.
I’ve built a new club display integrated into the workbenches this week, or rather ‘we’ have - many thanks to Steve Kanes who gave me a huge help on Tuesday.
Also many thanks to Nigel Clempson and Richard Le Page who helped me with the workshop fittings.
Nigel sourced the stainless steel workbenches for me from a restaurant in Manchester which look like they were custom made for the location and perfect for the job!
Richard with his business Core Flooring created a level, professional flooring and I’m really glad he did as it makes the workshop really easy to keep clean.
We drew the raffle in the bar on Saturday 3rd Jan which was due to be the Canadian Greensomes day. The lucky winners were:
- Winston Lee – Powakaddy trolley, a GPS or a place on the 2015 Academy programme
- Roy Douglas - £200 voucher to spend on custom clubs
- Midge Inger – Pair of FootJoy shoes
- Craig Pates – Multi Compound re-grips
- Richard Gee – PING Karsten putter
- Nigel Metcalfe – Glenmuir club logo sweater
- Colin Lovatt – one dozen Pro V1 balls
- Monica Tedstone – Brocton logo cap and towel
