A brilliant turnout!
Many thanks for everyone’s help and support for our Professional’s Day competition last weekend, we had a fantastic day and exactly 200 members played in it! We had a different event on every hole, including the shortest drive, mystery hole locations, two pins to choose from and some cross-country golf.
The results have been sent out on email but we didn’t list the scores - the winning score was 100 points with two teams sharing the title, followed by 94 and the last scores in the prizes down at 14th place were 91 points. Lots of players have commented on how much fun the event was and it was all done with Covid-safe measures in place.
The bar and catering were really busy too so it was great to see everyone enjoying another proper day out at Brocton Hall with some people ‘Out-Out’ for the whole afternoon.
Thanks to my team for all the hard work setting the day up and hosting it with me and thanks to Bill Whittle and the Lady President for the drinks and nibbles in the halfway house. The very first shot on the 9th, double-your-money hole was almost worth a lot more as Ben Yates’s 4-iron tee shot ran around the hole for a very near miss and I was at the back of the green to witness it. Still can’t believe it didn’t go in.
Whenever I’m asked how many people hit the green on the 9th, I remark that amazingly it always used to be almost exactly 19% for year after year. We haven’t done it for a couple of years and the last times we did, it was closer to 35%. This year the hole played into the wind and remarkably the number to hit the green was once again exactly 19%!!
Thanks to everyone for having a go and getting involved.
What's happening this week?
There’s nothing on this weekend, so we’re going to put a Pro’s fiddle on if anyone wishes to play. It will be a better-ball Stableford, pairs competition, played off the white and red tees.
This means that you can also put a card in to try and qualify for the Captain Pro matches as it’s the same format. We’ve extended the qualifying period for a fortnight until next weekend.
The top 8 scores over the few weeks will play against the Captain and I in matchplay format over the winter, any pair that has the audacity to beat us will share the entry pot. The leading 8 pairs so far are made up of 6 scores from 44 to 47. There are a further 7 pairs on 43 points with two of those qualifying to play us.
