Well done also to Ben Yates who has been the Bridesmaid for far too many weeks in the Tuesday Social and won this week by 3 clear shots with 22 points - the same score as he came 2nd with last week.

During the lockdown period when I was inviting members to relay their strategies for playing different holes on the Tuesday Social Facebook page, Ben's hole descriptions usually went something like - "Driver, 7 iron, 2 chips, 3 putts, pick up and NR".

Well, it looks like you figured it all out in the end, Ben!

I've archived the Facebook Page for the time being to maintain the integrity of it's use, which is to relay the Tuesday Social results and was also to engage positively with the membership during the forced lockdown.

We have a comments book in the Pro Shop and the same can be found in the Round Hall of the clubhouse which I'd strongly suggest continue to be the means to forward both positive and constructive comments.

The best time of the year

As the leaves start to drop and the nights draw in, this is the time when golf at Brocton Hall becomes the best value in my opinion and we always get a great positive vibe at the club.

Whilst other clubs are prepping temporary greens, we are lucky to be welcoming Autumn with open arms and I, for one, look forward to the winter events.

We get busier in a shorter daylight window, new equipment gets released, the smell of hot coffee is a welcome greeting and some of the mornings are gorgeous. This year we have many new specifically built teeing areas.

I'm sure you'll enjoy this picture taken from the pro shop this week.

It happens to be the best time to work on your game as well in the coming weeks and Ladies and Juniors have a special reason to be freshly invigorated as we move through the next few weeks...

Mike and I have been getting some great results during coaching sessions lately and this is where Ladies, juniors and everyone can join in to get the most out of the winter. We have some group coaching sessions which will be starting in October - let us know if you'd like to join in.

Everything will be COVID compliant and limited to 4 in a group. Let's face it, getting outside in the fresh air is going to be more important than ever this season.

Ladies & juniors-only fittings

We're also pleased to announce that we have a new ladies-only club-fitting matrix and also a juniors-only matrix which will be ready for you to use in the next 3 weeks.

Many of the clubs in the fitting studio have options for ladies and juniors but we've created specific fitting kits that have all the attributes to play the game better with ease, especially designed for these golfer groups.

Through the use of softer shafts and grips, higher lofts and lighter balances, golfers with smoother swings and lower ball-flights can take back some of the advantages from the course.

Mike had some great news this week as he received confirmation that he had passed all the PGA Training exams and can now become a fully-fledged member of the Professional Golfers Association.

It wasn't without a hiccup though as he received an email 24 hrs before to say he'd failed each of the three final exams which was devastating news as the whole process has been drawn out for obvious reasons this year.

Fortunately he received a phone call the next day to explain that there had been an IT error and the message should not have gone out, in actual fact he'd passed them all with flying colours!

Congratulations Mike! He can now become fully self-employed and do whatever he likes in the golf industry or elsewhere and will always be able to maintain his profession as a professional sportsman.

What else is going on?

Adam has also been chock-a-block with the FREE club MOT's and Ultrasonic club cleaning over the past week.

I'm particularly impressed with how thorough and accurate he is with any task he takes on which is a commendable trait!

Jill has been getting to grips with the many operations that we undertake and alongside the clothing promotion of £10 off each item, she has allowed a lot of members to freshen up their wardrobe by sourcing a whole new range of end-of-year clothing for men and ladies from Island Green.

Just remember, that as of today with the new Government regulations, you need to wear a face-covering everywhere in the shop, but it's the norm in every other shop you go in and we're used to it by now so there's no need to feel awkward or stay away.

The only exception is when hitting shots in the studio.

A new era?

Bryson DeChambeau’s U.S. Open victory was dominant, comprehensive and (however you feel about the man) impressive. Having transformed his body by adding extraordinary amounts of muscle, ‘The Mad Scientist’ has developed a completely unorthodox golf swing. In fact, during his winning round on Sunday, commentators compared his driver swing side-by-side with a top baseball player!

The big-driving American wasn’t alone in breaking the mould, though. Matthew Wolff, the eventual runner-up, moves his knees more like an Elvis Presley dance move than a PGA Tour winner’s golf swing. Both of these men, alongside world number one Dustin Johnson, go to show that there is definitely no one way to swing a golf club.
