Welcome back to the Brocton Hall Golf Club newsletter, giving you all the latest from in and around the club, as well as some features to bring out the best of your game. We hope you've been having a good week so far. The course has been playing as long as it ever will recently, after all the rain curtailed any roll we've been getting on the fairways. I bet everyone slept well after two rounds in a day in the current conditions! Enjoy the read. |
Like the old days...
Everything is hotting up for a fantastic BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth this week, watching them playing in Autumnal conditions is like watching the European Tour of old, before everything was so clinically staged and global.
Looks ideal! We currently have the clothing promotion on in the shop with £10 OFF per garment. Next week we'll see the Autumn /Winter clothing arrive, the winter knockout begins, our Captain Pro matches start and I personally think it's going to be a great winter for golf: - The fairways are lush at the moment which bodes well for the winter.
- The new handicap system will be very interesting to witness.
- We'll all be keen to get outdoors and mix with others
- Tee times mean that everyone can plan their day around their golf and make the most of the daylight hours.
- We may even keep the Tuesday social going through the winter

Brocton Hall's young prospect...
Congratulations to junior member Maria-Tiffany Thompson, who won the Ladies Club Championship this week. Looking at the scores, she held onto an 8 shot lead from the morning round and looked to have won by 12 shots over the 36 holes from Nicki Bowen. Maria's been a mad keen golfer year after year and spends a lot of time on her game - keep it up, Maria!

Making the effort!
The Staffordshire PGA are running four Better Ball Pairs Pro-Am events starting at the Wergs golf club on November 4th. It's great to see everyone making an effort and keeping active. Hopefully, for all our sakes and for everyone's business - we can soon see some positive changes. |
What a story!
Watching Aaron Rai winning the European Tour Rolex event at the weekend also brought about stories of an ex-Staffordshire junior golfer from many people who have played with him as a junior, watched him practicing or played golf with him recently. His seems to be a story of determination and diligent practice, a late bloomer who is an honourable gentleman and everyone is happy for him and his career. All these traits held his game strong during the horrendous conditions they faced at times in Scotland. His caddie is Jason Timmis who is also one of the best PGA professional players in Staffordshire as well. And then, of course, there is Robert Rock who surely should have been in the playoff at the weekend alongside Aaron and Tommy Fleetwood. Three Staffordshire professionals involved in sown the stretch in one of the European Tours top events. |
Juniors out in force...
It was great to see some very keen young golfers at the club at the weekend for our Junior Academy coaching. A dozen juniors are getting into the game, having fun and getting outside in the fresh air plus of course they are beginning their journey which could see them spending 90 years playing the game. What a great advert for golf that is! |

Golf's back on UK soil
When Sergio Garcia won The Masters in 2017, every headline was along the lines of ‘Finally!’. More than three years later, his win at the PGA Tour’s Sanderson Farms Championship marks his first win since and prompted many similar headlines. Although, did you know both victories involved Sergio putting with his eyes shut at impact? On the European Tour, Tommy Fleetwood looked to cap the return of the big names at the Scottish Open, a Rolex Series event, with a victory. But fellow Englishman Aaron Rai upset the odds to beat Fleetwood in a playoff that saw Tommy miss from a couple of feet at the first playoff hole. Both storylines demonstrate the importance of putting well when the pressure's on. So, if you struggle with holing out or three-putt too many times due to poor distance control, send us a message below and we'll be happy to help.
