The Captains Swan Song was played in very frosty conditions which makes for some fun shots to be played. Holding the 3rd green was a challenge and there's still lots of golf balls suspended on the ice on the 9th lake which shows in the fact that anyone who got a 2 received £16!
There was still some good scoring however:
1st Mike Dewsbury & Phil Jackson 41
2nd Neil Johnson & Adrian Dibble 41
3rd Steve Metcalfe & Paul Hodkinson 39
4th Neil Flowers & John Golder 38
5th Pete Hughes & Steve Witton 38
6th Nigel Sandy & Eamonn Gormley
Two's: Maurice Howell, David Rees, Neil Flowers, Richard Le Page, Barry Mayer.
The Lady Captains Swan Song is played on Wednesday this week followed by the club AGM on Saturday and Captains/Presidents drive in on Sunday with the Ladies drive in next Wednesday. Hopefully the snow will have stayed away as we progress into the new season.
Keep a look out on your emails for a special mail coming out this week about our Achievement Through Commitment lesson packages. You'll also receive a mail in the coming weeks which will be exclusive to you, this will be your loyalty points accrued last year which you can use for coaching - either a lesson, an assessment, a group coaching session or one of our clinics throughout the year.
On Sunday 1st February Luke will be taking part in an event for the charity Diabetes UK called the Tough Guy challenge.
Tough guy is the original and toughest test of its kind anywhere in the World, the whole point of Tough GuyT experience is the addictiveness of Fear, competitors will need every last ounce of mental and physical strength they can muster to rise to this challenge. Their fear of heights, tight spaces, fire, water and electricity will be tested to the max. Everyone bar the very toughest will be beaten by over 250 manmade obstacles over a 15 kilometre course !
He's taking sponsorships in the pro shop and has raised a fair amount so far.
Good luck Luke!
Our new Shaft wall has been getting some attention in the shop and on Twitter. Somebody remarked that all I need to do is write on them 'this one adds 20 yards', 'this one creates a draw', 'this one will never miss the fairway' etc. Actually not as daft as it sounds as the lighter shafts are for greater swing speed, the heavier ones are for consistency and the right one for you will help you to hit the fairway. There's more information about shafts further down.

I'm away in 2 weeks time to play a pro-am in Arizona at the famous TPC Scottsdale venue, home of the Phoenix Open which starts on TV next Thursday. Whilst I'm there I'll be collecting a new frequency analyser which is the machine I use to check shaft flex. Ironically the manufacturer holidays in AZ just up the road from us - this also means that I can prove to Katie that this really is a business trip!
As you may know there aren't any standards in the golf industry for shaft flex, one companies regular may be another companies stiff flex and even within each company there are different swing speed recommendations for different models. Whilst flex isn't as important as other specifications, such as length, weight and lie angle, it can be so far out due to manufacturing tolerance that the club is virtually unusable especially for more aggressive swings I.e fast swings or short swings with a quick change of direction - yes Seniors, that's you!
When I return we'll be running a FREE club MOT promotion for the last two weeks of February. Click here to book your clubs in to be left with us and we'll check and record the clubs for matching:
Weight
Lie angle
Loft angle
Swing weight (balance)
Frequency (flex)
Grip size
Face angle
Shaft torque (twist)
Moment of Inertia (effort required to swing)
Here's a screenshot of an MOT from last year, the amber squares are things I would suggest altering, the red square are things that definitely need attention and these would involve shortening a club, adding weight to another one and bending the angles of the others - total cost of about £28 to get the clubs maximised for consistency for the year.

"Hi Nev,
Most people who have known me for a long time in both business and socially know I am a tremendous sceptic. This probably comes from my business background where I never accept anything on face value and always question things to the 'N' degree - it's the only way to fully understand things and to validate the authenticity.
So you may therefore understand that I was somewhat sceptical in believing that personal golf club fitting would make much of a difference to my game.
How wrong could I be !!!! - immensely is the answer. Your diagnosis of what I needed in terms of replacement Irons and new shafts for my woods was spot on. The guys I play with are astonished with the difference it has made - longer and straighter.
I thank you for the service you have given to me and applauded your skills in club building, if anyone ever questions the service you offer I will be one of the first to defend it wholeheartedly and act as a reference to other golfers at Brocton and beyond.
Thanks again with much appreciation."
Regards
Graham
