It's finally here
We’re all in for a treat with the US Masters extended coverage this year which may soak up a few lockdown hours for you. For many, the most likely winner of the US Masters this week is Jon Rahm. Two holes in one already this week with a 5 iron on the 4th and a skim trick shot over the water on 16! His short game and putting is not quite where he would like it but he spent most of the day on Tuesday working hard with Jose-Maria Olazabal on these things. I’d have loved to have been in on the conversation, although the fact I can only order a beer and ask for the cheque in Spanish could have been a limiting factor. There’s much talk about the difference in the course between the normal April date and now. Players have reported that they can see different places to hit the ball due to the lack of crowds and there will be less punishment from bad lies due to footfall if they stray offline. On the downside, they are finding it tougher around the greens as the grasses are different and they can’t run the ball through the fringe or get much stopping backspin on the ball. The sub-air system on the greens assures the tournament committee can get the greens as firm as they like, even if it rains hard so the scoring is likely to favour those that hit lots of greens. My bets would be Tony Finau, Patrick Cantlay and Rory who I think will enjoy the limelight being on Bryson instead of him. Whether Bryson lives up to the hype dictates whether the whole professional golfing world starts bulking up from next week!
Whatever happens, if your favourite player doesn’t win, never mind, they’ll have another chance back at Augusta in 5 months time!
Facebook group returns!
Fortunately, we are allowed to re-start the Facebook group again and now have extra moderators in place from a more varied group, thank you to everyone for allowing this to happen - it really is a communication lifeline for many. I want as much back and forth on the site as possible but you must please bear in mind that this is a more public group with a wide demographic of golf club members and some of the 'banter' that you would exchange between private groups isn't appropriate on here where there may be juniors etc engaging with it. If in doubt, tone it down, but please join in. I ran a US Masters sweep on Facebook which sold out in less than 24 hours, thanks to everyone for having a go. It promised to be good fun engaging with everyone during the tournament and relaying the winning scores each day, but sadly it was necessary to shut the page down yesterday. Hopefully, I’ll figure out a way to let the winners and contenders know each day. We were going to use the Facebook page to showcase some of our current clothing ranges which you can reserve and collect in-store. Simon’s painstakingly photographed each item, which you can see a preview of below. |
