Winter weather all round...
As far as the golf at Brocton is concerned, we’re not actually missing anything due to COVID. The stubborn snow was still in place until Tuesday this week and it took two solid days of rain to clear it, which would likely have ceased any golf anyway and looks to be the case for a few days yet. The greenstaff has taken the advantage of a clear course to solid tine the greens this week. They do it in late summer to get some air into the greens and to sow new grass seed in order to encourage deeper root growth. In late winter, it can be done to aerate the greens also, but has the added advantage of keeping air going into the greens for longer, reducing the compaction. The deer are getting much braver as well, we counted 81 outside the Pro Shop on Tuesday, fortunately, they are grazing so they don’t venture onto the greens! |
The Junior membership would normally be gathered with their families and committee members for the annual presentation dinner this week but they still managed to celebrate the year on the juniors' Whatsapp group. Well done to Ethan Evans on his Captain’s year and all the very best to Ellie Treadwell for her Captain’s year ahead and to Vice-Captain Maria-Tiffany Thompson. They’ve been thinking outside the box as well and produced some videos in lieu of not being able to meet up for the ceremonies, which can be viewed on the members' section of broctonhall.com.
New deliveries
Most major golf companies have delayed the launch of their new products until the end of February. PING were due to launch new clubs this week and Callaway, TaylorMade and Cobra were due at the end of January. We’ve still received the new Mizuno woods, however. By the time golf re-launches we’ll have everything added into our fitting matrix and ready for you to test out. Over the past week I’ve been refreshing our iron matrix and expanding the options, would you believe we now have 9,000 combinations of shaft and heads! Once I’ve caught up with the jobs that I’d put back in readiness for an expected lockdown, I’ll be making some videos about the differences that we see between the different shafts and heads and how it affects the ball flights for different golfers. If you have any questions, just send me a message and I’ll make sure I cover them. |
