60 golfers took part in our pro’s fiddle which was changed to Sunday after the course was closed on Friday and Saturday following snow. Everyone was coming in after play saying how cold they’d been with the biting wind, but that was nothing compared to the Sunday that Luke had!
After weeks of training and fundraising he took part in the notorious Tough Guy Challenge in Wolverhampton. It’s fair to say he looked a little worried after visiting the site in the week and I don’t think it disappointed on the day!
Over 5,000 people took part with only 2,500 managing to finish and Luke finished a very creditable 900th, albeit with hypothermia, cuts and bruises, cramp and a new appreciation of cold. Looking at some videos on YouTube it looked great fun at the start but seeing some of the 250 obstacles on the 15km course and hearing the horror tales from Luke, I think ‘fun’ was not the best description. Luke has raised and been pledged over £1,000 for Diabetes UK, please come and see him in the shop to complete the process and give him your congratulations. I’m away next week so he might be giving you the gory details in the newsletter.
The Yellow Ball competition is on for the gents this Saturday, the format is three ball stableford with the best 2 scores from 3 to count, one of which must be the designated yellow ball player for that hole. Every year there is some confusion – you don’t need to use an actual yellow ball and it doesn’t matter (apart from to your score!) if you lose your ball on your turn. The forecast is cold but good for the next 10 days so enjoy!
