This week marks 13 years since I came to Brocton Hall as Club Professional. There's been a lot of people coming and going in that time and we've made lots of friends along the way.
To mark the event we have launched a Shirt Amnesty which means you can bring any old golf shirt into the shop and we'll give you £10 off a new one from stock! There's plenty to choose from with Ashworth and FootJoy men's and Glenmuir ladies. So, don't keep that old shirt thinking you'll wear it again or wait for it to come back into fashion - turn it into a new one at a discount.
Well after much waiting and wondering it's finally upon us - no I'm not talking about Wimbledon or some proper warm sunshine, I'm referring to our 24 hour golf challenge which we set off for this Thursday at 6pm.
Thanks for all your donations and well wishes, especially as it looks like we're going to have some very hot weather for the last three of our seven rounds. From my limited experience with endurance events, the finishing stretch when the urge to quit is massive becomes all about the charities and the people who have supported you, rather than any motivation from self-challenge.
If you would like to join us there are still some slots available to play or caddie for one of the rounds. Bill Whittle and I are playing as a 2 ball to be joined by up to 2 others and so are Steve Hirst and Nathan Lamey as another 2 ball. There are slots available at 8am Friday, 11:30 am Friday and 3pm Friday to play or caddie. Please call the shop on 01785 661485 if you'd like to join in - why should we have all the fun!
It's been a busy week at the club with a Mixed Open on Friday, Junior Open on Sunday and Captains Day this weekend. Well done to everyone involved in running these events - I can testify that a lot of time is put into the smooth running and a great deal of team work too. Good luck to the Captain for his weekend and to the Lady Captain for her day next Wednesday.
Richard and Elaine Hocknell have played in their first mixed open event at Perton Park last week and they only went and won it!
The Scratch team captained by Neil Johnson won again away from home against Copt Heath by 5 1/2 - 2 1/2. Away wins are huge in the scratch league and this puts us in a great position to try to win the league for the third year in a row and move up to division 4 (there are 9 divisions in the Midlands Scratch league).
Tuesday Social golf 30 golfers played in 30 degrees this week and special mention must go to Matt Wilkes who had an amazing score. His stableford score went 3,0,3,3,0,0,3,3,3 - a birdie on every hole except for three where he didn't score!
Wayne Bailey - 19 - £14
Gary Murphy - 19 - £12
Ian Carlton - 19 - £11
Matt Wilkes - 18 - £9
Carl Tindall - 18 - £7
Rich Le Page - 17 - £5
Well done to Steve Treadwell who scored a hole-in-one on the 3rd hole at the weekend and did the honours in the bar!
The Open sweep opens this week in the Pro Shop, £3 per go, pick a ticket and have your chance to win either £50, £30 or £20 for picking one of the top three, or four chances of winning £10 by picking the golfer out of the top 50 who has the worst score each day. Looks like it's going to be a fiery course at St Andrews in a couple of weeks with hardly any rain forecast before then - that means anyone can win including Tiger as they will be able to bomb the ball offline and the best putter will win - unless the wind blows of course!
In the workshop this week:
Tour Edge CB Forged irons - XP95 shafts
Cleveland RTX 50, 54, 60 wedges - KBS Hi-Rev shafts
Cleveland RTX 50, 56 wedges - KBS Tour 90 shafts
Taylor Made driver re-shaft
Miura K Grind wedge - Dynamic Gold
Ping wood re-shaft
Miura irons - name stamping
Junior irons and woods - re-shaft x 2
Tom Wishon 5 wood
We also have some new Cork putter grips which come in a range of sizes and styles and the feel from cork is superb. Have a look at our display in the club section.
