We had a first in my 13 years at Brocton last week - nobody got a 2 in the midweek stableford competition! I'm going to donate the money to the Captains Charity - I'm sure the Captain will thank you for not scoring any!
The pin positions had been set for the Seniors Open the following day and the par threes were especially tough. In the morning event, there was just one birdie 2 but also a hole in one - so it was as easy to hole the tee shot as it was to get in the hole in 2! Well done to Pete and Di Allder who ran another successful event. There were a few golfers from my previous club, Hinckley, and it's nice to see them coming over to support the event as they have done every year.
Good luck to Brocton member Richard Le Page who is overseas this week representing England in the European Deaf Golf Championships at Hauger Golf Club in Norway. The course ranks amongst the top courses in the country and looks amazing. Take some reddies with you though Rich - Norway is Uber expensive.
We have a new pet at the club - 'George the pigeon' has been coming in to visit us. I saw him walking around last week and he seemed quite tame, then he wandered into the shop and came strolling up to us. One of his wings is broken and he spends the day just pottering about. Katie bought some seed for him and he seems to be surviving quite well.
I mentioned the green iron which we have had on demo in the newsletter last week. Here is a video of Andy using it, wait for the cheesy grin at the end!
I played with the Vice President, Ken Bailey, in the club match away at Leek on Saturday. We had the distinction of both having an air shot and winning 4 & 2. Ken was very solid and I had 7 birdies and although the team lost 7 -5, we won the home and away leg to the tune of 14 - 10. The traditional port was very nice as well!!
