The Pro Am is here on Friday, we are full with 40 teams featuring the cream of the crop from the PGA Midland Region with 14 of the top 15 players from the Order of Merit playing PLUS Ryder Cuppers David Gilford and Paul Broadhurst. Come and watch the play if you like.
The first tee time is 8:30 and the full list can be found here.
Thanks in advance to the volunteers and competitors. My apologies to anyone who has been trying to catch my eye over the past couple of weeks - organising one of these events becomes very full on nearer the day and with small gaps between my other duties at the club I have to maximise my time. I've not even had time to finish reading my latest book - "The Procrastination Equation". Might put it off for later!
Lots of good golf being played in competitions last week (apart from on Friday when it rained all day long).
Jason Day became a popular winner of a Major as he won the US PGA Championship from Jordan Spieth at Whistling Straits. He was probably due to be the next player tagged with the title 'best player to have never won a major' which I'm sure would now go to Henrik Stenson.
I've got a hectic week this week with the Pro Am, a couple of Short Game Masterclasses, the match against Beau and lots of coaching, so the sweep results will appear in next week's newsletter. They'll also be in the shop and on the winner's accounts before then.
Hannah Golding competed in the National Ladies Grand Final medal event after winning through at a Regional event in May.
The Grand Medal Final is contested by the cream of England's club medal players. Each finalist had returned the four best medal scores at her club during 2014 and had won through a regional final to take her place at Frilford Heath.
Here's Hannah's Dad's report on the day:
"It was a great day, Hannah played really positively right from start, making par on the opening two holes (10th & 11th), she drove well on every hole, hitting great shots with her fairway wood and finishing each hole with some good solid chipping and putting. The benefit of getting a feel of the course during the practice round on the previous day resulted in Hannah making 9 pars during the round in conjunction with some really thoughtful play.
Hannah's handicap has been reduced from 14.5 to 13.0 as a result of her fine play in this competition. At the end of the round, Hannah was interviewed by England Press, and was ecstatic about her round, "Brilliant day, I played with two really nice ladies, the course was in great condition and I probably played the best I've ever done and to finish with two pars, particularly on the tricky 9th par 3 with a great chip and downhill putt, was really pleasing
It was a really well organized event and Hannah was really proud to represent Brocton Hall G. C."
Richard Le Page has been playing for England in the European Deaf golf Open Championship in Norway. The England A Team won the event and it looked a hard fought few days.
141 golfers played in the Centenary Salver on Saturday and Paul Edwards won with a nett 64. The scratch score of the course for the day has gone up again by 1 to 70. This means that in all but 2 events this year the course has played more difficult than the par. In other words, if your handicap has stayed the same this year, or even gone up by one shot, you've actually played under your handicap for the year!
This shows again in the two's sweep as there were only 10 of them scooping £14 each.
The Ladies Club Championship is being played on Wednesday. Fingers crossed for good weather for the 36 holes. The course is running well even with the deluge on Friday but it plays tricky when it's hard and fast, especially holding the 3rd green!
Short Game Masterclass
Ten golfers are attending Wednesday evening's event and there are 5 spaces left on Saturdays Masterclass from 10:00 - 11:30. Click here if you'd like to attend - the cost is just £10 per person and we'll be covering a variety of short game shots and banishing a few myths!
Members and non-members are welcome - if you're not doing anything at the time, book in and pop along, you've only go to pick up a couple of golden nuggets and it could rejuvenate your scoring ability!
Don't forget we've also got an offer on Wedges at the moment with BUY 1 GET 1 HALF PRICE on Cleveland RTX and Mizuno MP T5 models.
Please remember to mend your pitchforks on the greens - especially after a little rain as you may have not been used to making them in the harder conditions. We do tend to get more pitchforks when it's hard, funnily enough, because the balls run to the back of the greens and golfers don't think to walk all the way to the front and repair the mark they made.
