Jordan Spieth cemented his position as the world number one in style this week by winning the Tour Championship and clinching the FedEx Cup trophy at the same time, pocketing a cool $12 million. That means he racks up the most money in a season ever on the tour with over $22million - not bad for a 22 year old!
Over on the 'second league' Web.Com Tour, the same Championship takes place at Sawgrass in Florida this week. Up for grabs are exemptions onto the main PGA Tour and it's not being played on the famous Stadium course, host of the Players Championship every year. Instead they are playing the Pete Dye designed 'Dye's Valley' course. I played in a pro-am at this course this year and water comes into play on all 18 of the holes -and its big water too!
They closed the course last year and re-laid the entire place to take some of the slopes off the fairways and greens as they were too difficult to host tournaments anymore - it will be interesting to see what scores they shoot - the best score in our pro-am was 3 under par which was the only score under par.

Ladies Beginner lessons I currently have three ladies wishing to take up golf and will be conducting some group coaching sessions. The cost would be £10 for an hour's group coaching session, probably on a Wednesday or Thursday morning.
October Half Hour Lessons
Now we're into October I'm launching the new winter half hour lesson opportunity. This means you can partake in golf improvement at a reduced rate of £25 for half an hour's coaching. Hour long sessions are still available, the half hour will just give you the opportunity to spend less time out in the elements!, although it's been a pleasure to be outside for the last few weeks.
CONGU junior coaching will continue to be at the reduced rate of £10 for half an hour of individual coaching as it has been all year.
PLUS your loyalty points can now be redeemed and used to pay for your coaching! 2.5% of anything you buy in the shop sits on your account as loyalty points and this can be used to invest in your golf game. We're intending to send out vouchers on email to those whose addresses we have in the till system although we've been having intermittent problems with our server for the past month. If you don't receive anything via e-mail - we will have a record of how much 'coaching credit' you have accrued to date. The golf course at Brocton looks in amazing condition at this time of year, especially following the course maintenance. I played in the NSPCC charity day last week and the greens were running incredibly true. Given the fact that we stay on proper greens through the winter, the level of growth we see on the surfaces can only be good news for us - well done to everyone involved in producing a fantastic course.
It's understandable that lots of members want to bring their guests to play it at the moment but please bear in mind that you can only sign a maximum of 12 guests in during the year and the same person can play a maximum of 6 times - the year runs from April to April regarding guest green fees.
We have 2 weeks left for the Tuesday Social due to fading light. There were 23 golfers playing this week and we'll probably be playing in a couple of weeks' time in a shotgun start format so we can all play and we'll be using the light up 'Night Golf' balls for the last few holes. This will also act as a tester for a Night Golf I am planning to hold at the end of October. It's great fun so stay tuned for the details.

I'm away next week for a few days at the annual Golf Trade Show in Harrogate to view the usual assortment of clubs promising to hit the ball further than the ones that promised to do the same last year!
