Christmas launch weekend
Thank you to everyone who came down for our Christmas launch weekend. We had a Black Friday sale, followed by the Turkey Trot on Saturday and a mixed Pro's Fiddle on Sunday.
We had the coffee machine on free vend in the mornings and provided mince pies, chocolates and the odd little bit of something special in the coffee. It turned out to be a good day for it on Saturday as 130 golfers played in the Turkey Trot and we used a card numbering system so instead of waiting on the tee, you could come into the shop for some pre-round inspiration.
Pete Hughes and Niall McPhee finished in the dark and won with 42 points, thanks to Niall's 4-pointer on the 17th!
Time for the winter warmers
Understandably the wooly hats were popular at the weekend as we had some pretty severe wind chill. The ProQuip waterproof beanies sold out and the winter mitts and lined sweaters were popular - we have more stock arriving this week.
We have also received some great value base and mid layer garments from Catmandoo in the form of black roll necks and Navy fleeces. These are just £19.99 each and as with any of the clothing in the shop, if you buy two items you can take 10% off the price and 20% if you purchase three items. Here's what they do:
Base Layers - A simple base layer like the roll necks will keep cold arms and chest temperatures at bay. - Best advice is to layer up but choose lightweight garments or they will restrict movement. - Don't go for too tight a base layer as there needs to be a little movement and space to trap the warmth.
Mid Layers - The fleeces are warm, light and stretchable. - The old reliable thick wool sweater is a good heat conductor but one of the poorest garments for wicking moisture away from your body. - Fleece material traps heat very efficiently and Catmandoo has its history in ski-wear.
Ex-Demo and Aged Stock availability
Last week I built up and collated our Ex-Demo and Aged stock and released it for sale on our Christmas weekend. It's a perfect opportunity to fill a gap in your set, replace a worn out club or try a new club out at reduced cost. There are approximately 75 clubs including wedges, hybrids, woods and drivers in right and left hand. In most cases they can be re-shafted at no extra cost to match your style and they are all currently offered at 25% OFF. It's not a good idea to take a club out on the course as you don't have the opportunity to compare clubs or use the same ball, but what you can do now is book in to try them out in our studio on the new SkyTrak Launch monitor. You'll be a blue to see the clubs perform for yourself and only if they fill a need in your set will we allow them to be purchased. There's no charge and no obligation, you just need to book a half hour slot with either Luke or myself.
Yardage Gapping
Now is a great time to get involved with our Yardage Gapping sessions. We can provide you with a record of your clubs distances, using the balls you would use on the course, all completed in a nice warm indoor environment with a free freshly ground coffee!! The sessions take an hour and cost just £30.

Do you take any clubs onto the course that you can't hit - or shouldn't hit?!
During club fittings I often come across the scenario that golfers have clubs in their bags which shouldn't be there plus gaps for clubs which should be there to make the game easier. A great example was this week when I conducted a Game and Equipment Assessment with a member.
Two of the irons in his set were bent, he couldn't hit his hybrids very high in the air and he had a huge three club gap between pitching wedge and sand wedge and said he really struggled around the greens. The solutions were simple:-
- Re-shaft the two bent irons,
- Swing the club flatter around him to sweep the hybrids up in the air higher and longer,
- Add a gap wedge to the set.
The potential for improvement here is enormous within each area of the game. It's surprising how many golfers come to see us with a poor short game but actually don't possess a club that's remotely easy to use, or struggle with longer clubs and use difficult lofts to do the job.
